I don't know if you're aware of this, but you can change the way Live does certain things by adding an options.txt file on your preferences folder, with certain text strings.
You can find the preferences folder the following way: 1. Go to Live's "Help" menu. 2. Choose "Get Support". 3. Click "SHOW the preferences folder" (at the right).
This is not documented at all, and i wish it were, but for now, here are 3 strings that you can use to solve some issues.
If you have trouble automating Guru in Live 8, add the following string to the file:
-_PluginAutoPopulateThreshold=-1
With this option enabled, Live will always populate the plugin parameter list with the first 128 parameters of a plugin. Note that this is a global setting, i.e. it affects all plugins.
One other thing you can add to options.txt. If you have missing files on your set and live's search is coming up empty, even though you know the files exist, try adding this:
-_RelaxFileManagerSearch
If you want plugins to be able to accept keystrokes and Live is "stealing" them, add this:
-_EnsureKeyMessagesForPlugins

There's a new freebie on the website: 10 Sampler instruments.
The instruments were made using samples from our Foundation 1 & 2 sample packs, and also some waveforms from the default Ableton library. Open the info view to see additional information on each rack.
You get some great sounding sfx, bass, pad and rhythmic sounds. Install instructions are on the zip file. Enjoy!
Live 8 and Sampler required.

Free generative ambient set |

I've made a new generative ambient music live set.
Here's a 5 minutes render:
You need Live 8, Operator & Sampler to open the set. It is made by carefully selecting sounds, making variations, and using lots of follow actions at different timings. Just press play on the first scene, sit back and relax.

Here is the new GroovePacks freebie, this time for the Vocoder in Live 8.
It's a set of nice presets that show the vocoder in it's less cliched uses, like making strange reverbs, pitch tracking or spectral mangling and gating.
Just unzip and place the presets on your library/presets/audio effects/vocoder folder.
Download, and have fun! |

There are several ways to get a nice high frequency sparkle to a dull sound.
There are several plugins that do this, called exciters. Some are really good (and expensive) like BBE, and some suck, making the sound too unpleasant.
There is one trick that can be used when you don’t have a good exciter plugin: use a high pass filter followed by a saturator on a send.
But today i found a new method for doing this, and it sounds great. The trick is to use a convolution reverb, and there are free ones, like SIR, with a hihat sample as the impulse. Then adjust to taste.
Now go try it! |
